Advanced Therapies

Cutting Edge
Regenerative Therapy

California Surgical Group specializes in advanced forms of orthopedic and spine treatment. This includes two of the newest therapies: Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy & Stem-Cell Therapy. Both are available on a lien basis.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)

What is PRP therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.

The most common way to prepare PRP involves centrifuging a patient’s blood sample. A vial of blood is placed in a centrifuge, where it is spun at intensely high speeds. The spinning causes the blood to separate into layers. Once the centrifuge process is complete the doctor or medical technician will remove the vial from the centrifuge and prepare the PRP solution for injection.

What to expect.

You may experience results within a few weeks following treatment, but some people report feeling relief nearly immediately. Normal activities and exercise may resume within a week’s time. PRP therapy is a revolutionary breakthrough in the treatment of trauma induced orthopedic conditions.

STEM CELL THERAPY

What is Stem-Cell Therapy?

Stem-cell therapy is the use of stem cells to treat an injury or condition. Stem cells offer great promise for new medical treatments. Stem cells are the body’s raw materials — cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the right conditions in the body or a laboratory, stem cells divide to form more cells. These cells either become new stem cells or become specialized cells with a more specific function, for example, tissue repair / regeneration following a traumatic injury. No other cell in the body has the natural ability to generate new cell types, making stem cell therapy particularly beneficial in expediting the rehabilitation of traumatic injuries.

When is Stem-Cell Therapy beneficial? Is it right for me?

People who might benefit from stem cell therapies include those with spinal cord injuries, orthopedic injuries, burns, cancer and osteoarthritis. Stem cells have the potential to be grown to become new tissue for use in regenerative medicine.
